Nantwich Town councillors and town centre traders are objecting to plans submitted for the former Beam Street Medical Centre. Keyworker Homes (Cheshire) wants to demolish the former medical centre behind the library and build a retail unit, with Marks and Spencer rumoured to be interested.

A former health clinic in Nantwich could be turned into a Marks and Spencer food store, sources suggested today. It’s believed the retail giant has looked at the empty building (pictured), behind the library on Beam Street, as a possible location.

Nantwich book fans have been keeping the town’s library staff busy – by loaning out almost quarter of a million items in just 12 months! Latest figures show 3,076,388 items, which include books, CDs and DVDs, were loaned by Cheshire East Council’s 21 libraries between April 2010 and March 2011.
