A Nantwich village play group is in danger of closing because it is struggling to recruit volunteer helpers. Willaston Pre-School group, which has been caring for children for 25 years, will be forced to close if it is unable to find a chairman, said Cllr Brian Silvester.

Nantwich Police are stepping up patrols in Willaston following complaints of anti-social behaviour in the village. Residents have complained of late night noise and nuisance, particularly in the village park area. Last weekend, a “for sale” sign on a bungalow in Cheerbrook Road was broken up and stuck in a grid in the road.
Land named in memory of “Mr Willaston” Mike Heywood

A piece of land in Willaston, Nantwich, has been renamed Mike Heywood Green in memory of the late local community leader. Mike was chairman of Willaston Parish Council for 12 years and was active in the village, earning himself the nickname “Mr Willaston.”

A ‘residents only’ parking scheme could introduced to a Willaston street by the end of the year, a councillor revealed. It follows complaints from residents living on Gladstone Street, Willaston, that the cul-de-sac is used by non-residents to park up while visiting the village centre. New street signs are to be erected at a Willaston cul-de-sac after residents’ complained their bins were not being collected. The new signs will go up for The Fields, off Cheerbrook Road, Willaston, in the next few weeks, Cheshire East Council has confirmed. Cllr Brian Silvester (pictured), who represents Willaston and Rope, welcomed the news.

A night of entertainment in Willaston to celebrate a local councillor’s service has helped to raise more than £1,500 for good causes. The event was staged at Willaston Social Club to celebrate Willaston and Rope Cllr Brian Silvester’s 35 years, and in memory of the late former parish chairman Mike Heywood.

The main route connecting Nantwich and the M6 will be closed for several days in September to allow for resurfacing work. The westbound lane of the A500 will be closed between Cheerbrook roundabout at Nantwich and the Meremore roundabout near Shavington.

The Willaston Fete has been hailed another great success with hundreds enjoying the annual village festivities. Attractions at the fete included road train rides, face painting, funky hairstyles, temporary tattoos, balloon modelling and party bags.

A pot-hole ridden road connecting Willaston and Rope near Nantwich is to finally be re-surfaced later this month. Cheshire East Council highways teams will resurface Eastern Road, from its junction with Rope Lane and Green Lane, Willaston, between August 15 and September 1.
