An international rugby star will be visiting Brine Leas School in Nantwich this week where he will give a motivational talk. Welsh rugby league player Matt Thomas (pictured) will be speaking with the school’s PE students on Wednesday July 13 on the subject of “You maybe fit, but are you healthy?”

Students from Nantwich will get to enjoy their end of year prom at Peckforton Castle – despite the venue being hit by fire. Brine Leas pupils are to travel up to the historic venue tonight (June 29) to celebrate their Year 11 Leaver’s Ball.

Pupils from Brine Leas High School were given a hands-on taste of college courses during an industry day. Year 10 students from Nantwich spent a day at South Cheshire College sampling taster activities in brickwork, woodwork, hospitality and catering and travel and tourism.

A Nantwich school is to introduce a new electronic register and alert system labelled “Truancy Call”. Brine Leas High School is bringing in the new system so they can spot when a child is missing more quickly. Electronic registers will be taken every lesson so a child’s absence will be flagged up in seconds.

A former Brine Leas School student has linked up with a leading design agency to gain more experience of the graphic design world. Ambitious Laura Bentley (pictured) spent a week at award-winning Lesniak Swann in Stoke where she developed her design skills and learnt more about how a design agency operates.

A former Brine Leas School student is flying high after winning a prestigious training scholarship towards a career in the Royal Air Force. Tom Bean has been awarded £1,000 and a week-long course at an RAF Force Development Training Centre through the Sixth Form Scholarship scheme.

Brine Leas School in Nantwich is set to officially have Academy status from tomorrow (Sept 2). Headteacher Andrew Cliffe hopes the paperwork will be completed in time for it to be made official the day before students return after their summer holidays. It will be a major boost for the school after governors voted unanimously to apply.
