Roads are re-opening in Nantwich following the huge blaze at a scrap metal yard on Alvaston Business Park this morning. The only road still closed is the westbound carriageway of the Nantwich bypass between Reaseheath and Sainsbury’s roundabout (as at 11.15am Oct 7).

An inquest date has been set into the death of a 61-year-old man killed in a house fire at Peckforton, near Nantwich. Retired farm worker John Ernest Ryder died after he was found in his burning home on Stone House Lane.

Owners of Peckforton Castle can begin extensive renovation work after insurers agreed liability for the fire which ravaged the venue last month. Royal Sun Alliance agreed liability in a meeting on July 4, after the fire which broke out in the castle’s main function room in the early hours of June 18.

Fire-ravaged Cheshire venue Peckforton Castle is to reopen to the public tomorrow (June 24) just five days after being damaged in a dramatic blaze. More than 70 guests and staff had to be evacuated following the fire which ripped through the castle’s drawing room last Sunday morning.
