Nantwich shoppers are being warned about a gang who target people at cash machines and then steal their purses or wallets. The warning comes after a number of incidents in and around the town, the latest at Sainsbury’s supermarket on Middlewich Road.

Plans have been submitted to develop the latest section of the Nantwich-Crewe Greenway project. Cheshire East Council wants to extend the initiative by developing the section from Wistaston Green Road to the A51 Nantwich Bypass.

Students have been clocking on at Sainsbury’s in Nantwich as part of their work experience programme. Ten South Cheshire College entry level tudents have linked up with the store on Middlewich Road to learn the tricks of the shopping trade.
Fire crews tackle large tyre blaze near Nantwich

A mound of sleepers and tyres were set on fire on open land off Middlewich Road, Nantwich. The blaze caused large plumes of smoke close to the busy A530 and took two firefighter crews wearing breathing apparatus to bring the blaze under control.
New Middlewich Road crossing near Sainsbury’s store

Middlewich Road will be closed for a day to allow work on a new crossing close to the Sainsbury’s superstore. The crossing is being paid for by Sainsbury’s as a planning condition set by Cheshire East Council for its replacement store.

The new Sainsbury’s store in Nantwich is proving so popular its car park is struggling to cope. The huge numbers of customers yesterday (March 3) left some staff having to warn new arrivals that there were no parking spaces.

The new-look Sainsbury’s store in Nantwich is finally set to open its doors on March 2, it emerged today. Construction work has been taking place at the site off Middlewich Road for the last seven months. Now store bosses have brought the official opening date forward a week because of good progress.

The first part of a greenway route linking Crewe and Nantwich has been unveiled. Cheshire East councillors, Sustrans bosses and other guests were at the official opening the new bridge between Crewe Golf Course and King George V Playing Fields.
