The main A500 connecting Nantwich with the M6 was closed for most of the afternoon after a lorry overturned at a roundabout. The incident happened on the roundabout near Weston, between the Shavington turn-off and the A5020 Old Park Road roundabout for Crewe.

The main route connecting Nantwich and the M6 will be closed for several days in September to allow for resurfacing work. The westbound lane of the A500 will be closed between Cheerbrook roundabout at Nantwich and the Meremore roundabout near Shavington.

A Shavington resident was grateful after a smoke alarm alerted a neighbour to a late night house fire. The blaze in a property on Park Estate, Shavington, involved a wooden chopping board which has been left on a cooker top.

Armed robbers who raided a Shavington store among others have been jailed for a total of 17 years. Cousins Dean Sykes, 26, and Chris Sykes, 30, targeted the Co-op store on Main Road, Shavington, on January 18.

A hardy Willaston mum teamed up with friends to swim the English Channel and raise funds for Prostate Cancer. Nantwich businesswoman Nicola Joyce, 36, trained for a year to complete the feat with five other team members.

A home-owner was injured after tackling a late night prowler in his garden in Shavington, near Nantwich. Cheshire Police are appealing for information about the incident which happened in the Stocks Lane area of Shavington.

Several Nantwich schools will be hit by strike action next week when teachers and other staff walk out in a row over proposed changes to pensions. The national strike action on June 30 will involve local members of the National Union of Teachers and the Association of Teachers and Lecturers.

A Shavington motorcyclist died moments after smashing his bike into the side of a caravan as he rode towards Nantwich, an inquest heard. Nicholas Leighton, 41, was riding his silver Yamaha R1 when he crashed into a caravan being towed by a car on Crewe Road, Wistaston, the Cheshire hearing was told.

A motorcycle launch event helped to raise £500 for Leighton Hospital’s Child and Adolescent Unit (CAU). The open night, at the Crewe Honda Centre in association with Crown Lodge Freemasons of Willaston, raised £1,100 shared between charities across the area.
