A stunning bowling performance by Jimmy Warrington helped Nantwich CC 1sts to a crucial victory away at Didsbury. Warrington ripped through the hosts’ middle order, taking 7 for 46, to earn Nantwich 22 points and top spot in the Cheshire County Premier Division.

Nantwich CC 1sts slumped to a home defeat against Macclesfield in a rain-affected league clash at Whitehouse Lane. The defeat has put a dent in the hosts’ bid to retain the Cheshire County Premier League title, with leaders Chester and second placed Hyde pulling away.

Nantwich CC scooped 25 points in their bid to retain the league title by beating Alderley Edge by six wickets. The visitors won the toss and batted first but were soon up against it after losing openers Mark Currie and Alan Day cheaply.

Nantwich’s CAMRA Beer Festival is to be expanded and staged at Nantwich Cricket Club’s Whitehouse Lane ground. Organisers, who moved the event to the club’s pavilion and marquee last year, are pressing on with plans for this year’s festival to be held from Friday Sept 23 to Sunday Sept 25.

Nantwich CC smashed over 300 runs in 50 overs against Grappenhall, but only managed to draw the rain-affected match at Whitehouse Lane. Centuries by the impressive Jonny Kettle (150no) and Glen Batticciotti (101) helped Nantwich to a total of 304-3, when captain Andrew Newton decided to declare.

Nantwich CC suffered their first league defeat of the season away at Hyde – the team they pipped to the league title last summer. Andrew Newton’s men were beaten by five wickets, on the same day leaders Chester Boughton Hall also lost.
